Children’s Sunday School

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). Jesus does not overlook children; he loves them dearly and wants to develop a special relationship with them from the very beginning of their young lives. At Salem, our Sunday School is one way that we strive to bring our children to Jesus. At Sunday School, your child will learn about the love of Jesus through songs, activities, and Bible stories geared specifically to their age level.

Dates: The Sunday School year runs from the first Sunday after Labor Day weekend to the last Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.

Time: During worship from 10am – 11am for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sundays of the month. Staff will be available for drop-off and pick-up from 9:45am to 11:15am.

Place: Salem’s Family Ministry Center, just across the street from church on Strieter Rd.

Ages: 3 years old through 6th grade.

Youth Catechism Class

Catechism Class is the way for youth to continue their Christian education after Sunday School. Martin Luther, the man who began the Reformation in Germany in the 16th century, wrote the catechism so that all Christians might have a short and simple summary of the main truths that the Bible teaches. This catechism has served the Lutheran church well for nearly 500 years and continues to be the basis for teaching Bible truths to both young and old. Catechism class is taught by our pastor. After two years of catechism instruction, the students are confirmed and become communicant members of our congregation, which means that they are then able to receive communion.

Dates: The Catechism year runs from the week of Labor Day to the last full week of April.

Time: Thursday evenings from 7pm – 8pm.

Place: Salem’s Family Ministry Center, just across the street from church on Strieter Rd.

Ages: 7th and 8th grade.

Adult Bible Class

God’s Word isn’t just a religious textbook that contains information about God for us to learn. If that were the case, we could just toss the Bible aside once we knew it well enough to pass the confirmation test, like we might do with a college textbook once we’ve passed the final exam. Rather, Jesus says that God’s Word is the food that our souls need to survive. Jesus says, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Therefore, it is important for us to continue to study and receive God’s Word throughout our lives, no matter how well we know the information contained inside. Adult Bible Class gives you the chance to continue to nourish your soul through regular study of God’s Word. Adult Bible Class is taught by our pastor and covers a range of topics that show how God’s Word is relevant and applicable to our lives today.

Dates: Adult Bible Class is offered from the first Sunday after Labor Day weekend to the last Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.

Time: Sunday mornings before church from 9am – 9:45am.

Place: Salem’s Family Ministry Center, just across the street from church on Strieter Rd.

Ages: All are welcome. Drop in anytime!

4 Key Concepts Class

Why is life so difficult? What is God up to in the world? How can I be sure I’m going to heaven? What is the meaning of my life? We all want answers to life’s big questions. Thankfully, God gives us those answers in the Bible. But the Bible is a big book and it’s hard to know where to start. That’s why we hope you join us for this class so that you can find God’s answers to life’s big questions and learn the 4 Key Concepts of the Bible, which are an essential foundation to a correct understanding of the Bible as a whole. Whether you have been part of a church for your entire life or have never stepped foot in a church before, the 4 Key Concepts Class is a great opportunity to study the basic teachings of God’s Word and ask your tough questions – everything is fair game! It is also the starting point for those who are interested in becoming members of Salem – but there is no obligation and no pressure to continue the membership classes. The 4 Key Concepts Class is taught by our pastor and runs for just 4 weeks, so come and join us! You have nothing to lose!

FAITH BUILDERS

This is a 6-lesson course that will begin on October 29 and run every Sunday after church in the FMC through December 3.  It's called "Faith Builders" because in that class we will discuss things that create and strengthen faith.  Topics include: the Scriptures, Reading the Bible, Our Triune God, Jesus Christ, Baptism, and the Lord's Supper.  This class is Phase 2 of our new member classes since it builds on the basics we discussed in Phase 1, the 4 Key Concepts class, but members are invited and encouraged to take the class as well!  Sign up on the sheet in the Fellowship Wing, we'd love to see you there!
