Children’s Sunday School and Youth Bible Study
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). Jesus does not overlook children; he loves them dearly and wants to develop a special relationship with them from the very beginning of their young lives. At Salem, our Sunday School is one way that we strive to bring our children to Jesus. At Sunday School, your child will learn about the love of Jesus through songs, activities, and Bible stories geared specifically to their age level.
Dates: The Sunday School year runs from the first Sunday after Labor Day weekend to the last Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.
Time: Sunday mornings before church from 8:45am – 9:40am.
Place: Salem’s Family Ministry Center, just across the street from church on Strieter Rd.
Ages: 4 years old through 8th grade.
Youth Catechism Class
Catechism Class is the way for youth to continue their Christian education after Sunday School. Martin Luther, the man who began the Reformation in Germany in the 16th century, wrote the catechism so that all Christians might have a short and simple summary of the main truths that the Bible teaches. This catechism has served the Lutheran church well for nearly 500 years and continues to be the basis for teaching Bible truths to both young and old. Catechism class is taught by our pastor. After two years of catechism instruction, the students are confirmed and become communicant members of our congregation, which means that they are then able to receive communion.
Dates: The Catechism year runs from the week of Labor Day to the last full week of April.
Time: Thursday evenings from 6:45pm – 8pm.
Place: Salem’s Family Ministry Center, just across the street from church on Strieter Rd.
Ages: 7th and 8th grade.
Adult Bible Class
God’s Word isn’t just a religious textbook that contains information about God for us to learn. If that were the case, we could just toss the Bible aside once we knew it well enough to pass the confirmation test, like we might do with a college textbook once we’ve passed the final exam. Rather, Jesus says that God’s Word is the food that our souls need to survive. Jesus says, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Therefore, it is important for us to continue to study and receive God’s Word throughout our lives, no matter how well we know the information contained inside. Adult Bible Class gives you the chance to continue to nourish your soul through regular study of God’s Word. Adult Bible Class is taught by our pastor and covers a range of topics that show how God’s Word is relevant and applicable to our lives today.
Dates: Adult Bible Class is offered from the first Sunday after Labor Day weekend to the last Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.
Time: Sunday mornings before church from 8:45am – 9:30am.
